Somewhere in the recesses of my mind I have these vague memories of going to a Greek food festival with my mother and grandmother when I was very young. We were living in the San Fernando Valley at the time, and I know it wasn't far from home, but since I was probably only 5 years old or so, that's the best I can do as far as location goes. However, I do remember being in awe of the colors, the happy music, the boisterous people and the unusual food that was so delicious. After that, the only Greek food I would come across for many years was baklava, one of the most heavenly desserts I know of.   Complete story.

Newspapers vs. Web
The Sunday "Zits" comic strip succinctly highlighted why newspapers are more reader-friendly than the Internet. Two of America's most popular writers - John Grisham and Joseph Wambaugh - are about to publish new books that should be of widespread interest. FEMA is spending taxpayer dollars on puppet shows. These and other items are discussed by Vern Lawson in his In the VERNacular column.
